How much money do you actually have right now?
Add up every account the business uses, including the one you forget about. Then subtract anything already spoken for that has not left yet.

What does one payroll cost you?
Gross wages plus roughly a quarter more for taxes. One pay period, not the month.

What is the biggest bill coming in the next thirty days?
Rent, insurance, a tax payment, a repair you have been putting off. If you had to think hard about this, that is the finding.

How much is owed to you right now?
Families behind on tuition, plus anything you are waiting on from a program. Money you are owed is not money you have.

Pick one room. What does it bring in each week?
Children in that room times what each family pays weekly. Pick your infant room if you have one, it is usually the most revealing.

What does that same room cost you each week?
The teachers in that room, wages plus about a quarter for taxes. Add food and supplies. Leave rent and the office out for now.

How long between doing the work and getting paid?
Whether you are waiting on families or on a program, look at the last three payments and count the days. That is your real wait, not the one on the paperwork.

Where does most of the tuition money come from?
Neither answer is wrong. They just carry different risks, and you should know which one you are carrying.

Not a vacation. Really gone. List everything only you know how to do or only you can approve.

Could someone else read your books and understand them?
Hand three months to somebody outside the business. Could they tell where the money went?
